Provost The Provost is the College-wide Chief Academic Officer and oversees the College curriculum, faculty appointments, and other academically related areas. The Provost provides visionary leadership to promote and foster excellence in the academic aspects of the College’s mission. The Provost works in close collaboration with the President, Deans, faculty, and staff in advancing VCOM’s educational mission of teaching, learning, scholarship, and service. The Provost offers energetic, intellectual leadership to the academic community and plays a lead role in the development of vision and strategy for the College. The Provost ensures that VCOM’s greatest priority is academic excellence and the personalized and holistic education of students, in order to develop physicians who will make a positive impact on society. The Provost is responsible to the Board of Directors for College’s academic outcomes and to assure the College programs are consistent across campuses with the highest national standards. The Provost also assures all state and national accreditation standards are met across campuses. The Provost assures the Campus Deans are provided with the needed resources for success. The Provost reports directly to the President. Campus Deans Each Campus has a Dean who is oversees the academic programs of their campus. The Campus Deans are responsible to the President and Provost in assuring the anticipated academic outcomes for their campus are met and to administer the academic budget. In this role, the Campus Deans oversee the Associate Deans in their oversight of the Department Chairs, Discipline Chairs, and faculty in the delivery of the curriculum, assuring the academic program is of the highest standards and assuring consistency of the curriculum across campuses. The Campus Dean is expected to interact with the community, state, and national bodies that are appropriate for the position of Campus Dean, to serve as a leader in their community and the state representing the College, and to develop for approval and oversee the administration of the budget for their campus. Each Campus Dean is also expected to serve as a role model for the VCOM mission through the following: participating in the international and Appalachian/Delta service programs of the College annually, serving as an advocate for rural health in their state, and serving as an advocate for care of medically underserved populations within the state. The Campus Dean is expected to meet frequently with the campus faculty to assure institutional successes, address institutional challenges, and to introduce new programs. The Campus Dean must develop and maintain a relationship with the administration of each core clinical hospital site CEO for their campus, to facilitate affiliation agreements, and to nurture and maintain a positive relationship with the CEO and educational administration of the VCOM core hospitals. The Campus Deans are responsible to oversee the academic programs through oversight of the Associate Dean for Curriculum, Assessment and Medical Education; Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs; Associate Dean for OMS 4 and GME, Associate Dean for Simulation and Technology, Associate Dean for Biomedical Affairs, and Associate Dean for Student Affairs on their campus, assuring the delivery of quality instruction on campus in the pre-clinical years and off-campus in the clinical years and the provision of educational resources. The Campus Deans also oversee the Associate Dean for OMS 4 and GME in their role to assure their campus has the appropriate GME opportunities for the campus graduates through affiliations and new program development and to counsel each student and assure they have the best possible opportunities for residency while aligning with the College mission. In summary, the Campus Deans have the ultimate responsibility for the success of the VCOM academic programs on campus and in our core affiliated clinical sites. Vice President for Research The Vice President for Research is responsible to the President to oversee the research department and the research programs of the College and to assure the research mission of the College is met. In this role, the VP for Research oversees the Associate Deans for Biomedical Affairs and the faculty who perform research on campus. The
