The person is determined to be non-infectious by a physician knowledgeable and experienced in managing active TB.

iii.

G. Influenza 1. All students are required to provide the dates and verification (physician signature or vaccination records) of annual influenza vaccination. 2. Students will be required to re-submit verification annually and will not be allowed to participate in patient care activities without proof of vaccination. 2.4 Optional Laboratory Tests and Immunizations A. HIV Testing Although not required, VCOM encourages all students to obtain HIV testing prior to matriculation. Testing prior to matriculation provides students with their baseline status in regard to the presence of HIV so the student can be treated and avoid the spread of HIV during patient care. HIV is now a treatable condition where the appropriate treatment results in the inability to spread the virus. Having a baseline status also protects the student who may have an exposure incident during subsequent clinical activities. Students who test positive for HIV must stay on treatment and demonstrate appropriate levels to assure they avoid the spread of HIV to patients. The student’s medical information will be confidential except in such clinical education situations where the student’s participation is a danger to the student or patients in such situations. The student will be informed in advance of sharing this information. Students who are HIV positive may have an altered clinical program following CDC guidelines. B. Optional Vaccines The following vaccines are considered optional; however, VCOM strongly advises all students to discuss the appropriateness of each of the following vaccinations with their primary physician, taking into account their personal medical history, risk factors for contracting these diseases and potential for international travel. Students who have obtained the below optional vaccinations should document the dates and provide verification (physician signature or vaccination records) on the VCOM immunization form in the space provided. • Polio • Hepatitis A* • Meningococcal Disease • Yellow Fever • Typhoid Fever* • COVID-19* - Although not required, VCOM recommends that students

be vaccinated as many of the clinical sites still require COVID-19 immunization and approved boosters. Students may be unable to participate in some activities that require vaccination.
