VCOM Academic Visitor Policy and Procedure ____________________________________________________________________________________

1. P URPOSE The purpose for the Academic Visitor Policy is to provide a guideline for VCOM faculty and/or staff to:  Consistently deliver optimal academic study excellence for visiting colleagues;  Provide consistent support to these visiting colleagues, whether professors, practitioners, researchers, residents or students, who are visiting from other institutions for academic purposes (not a short-term regular employee);  Maximize the delivery of an expected academic objective and preserve the image of VCOM as an academic institution;  Protect VCOM from liability as it relates to approved academic visitors working within College programs; and  Provide information to and support from faculty who will be interacting with academic visitor. 2. A CADEMIC V ISITOR A PPROVAL Final approval from VCOM’s Dean and Executive Vice President must be received prior to the final invitation being sent to the academic visitor. To begin the approval process, the host faculty/staff member must develop a program of student with appropriate institutional objectives, budget, timetable, etc to their manager/supervisor and obtain the appropriate signatures. The Academic Visitor Approval Form to be used in this process is attached to this policy (Attachment A). Prior to sending out an invitation and before receiving final approval from the Dean and Executive Vice President, the host faculty/staff member must submit all paperwork for the academic visitor to the respective Human Resources Office for review to assure that the appropriate recommendations and accommodations are offered.
