16 VCOM-Virginia held its Commencement Ceremony for the Class of 2017 on Saturday, May 6, 2017 in a packed Burruss Hall auditorium on the Virginia Tech campus. One hundred eighty-nine new doctors of osteopathic medicine received their degrees. Barbara Ross-Lee, DO, the first African-American woman to serve as dean of a United States medical school, gave the commencement address. 17 The Center for One Health, a partnership between VCOM and the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine (VMCVM), cut the ribbon on a newly

remodeled research center on May 9, 2017. Several representatives from both schools spoke about the partnership and how the collaboration grew before giving tours of the new facility.
