13. JIM WOLFE - HISTORY OF VCOM

13 James F. Wolfe, PhD, the founding president of VCOM, gave a presentation that was live-streamed to all three campuses on April 20, 2017 about the history of VCOM. Dr. Wolfe spoke about the College’s history, the Via family and everyone that was instrumental in the founding of VCOM. 14 On April 26, 2017, students, faculty and administration from VCOM attended the opening of the Oscar de la Renta Pediatric Care Center in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The VCOM-affiliated facility will provide under-served communities with pediatric care at little to no-cost. The event was attended by Dominican Republic’s President, Danilo Medina, as well as Annette de la Renta, wife of the late Mr. de la Renta. 15 VCOM’s Military Promotion Ceremony for graduates in the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP) was held on Friday, May 5, 2017 in Virginia Tech’s War Memorial Chapel. Ten Military Health Professions Scholarship Program students from the VCOM Class of 2017 took the oath of office, received their promotion pins, and were honored for their commitment to serve as physicians in the United States Armed Forces. The guest speaker was retired Lt. General John Robb, DO, former director of the Defense Health Agency, who led a joint, integrated Combat Support Agency to provide a ready medical force for combat commands.
