VCOM-Louisiana Receives Thomas H. Scott Award of Excellence

V COM-Louisiana was honored Thursday evening, May 13, as the 2021 recipient of the Thomas H. Scott Large Business of the Year award. The Thomas H. Scott Awards are presented annually to local businesses that make significant investments in the economic development of Ouachita Parish. These investments can be in the form of community outreach, business expansion or creation of new jobs. The annual awards are presented in four different categories of businesses: VCOM-Louisiana was one of three nominees in the Large Business category. V COM-Louisiana is honored to have been named Beautiful Business of the Month by the Monroe Chamber of Commerce. The campus grounds are the result of many hours of upkeep each week. Micheal Colvin and his crew from All-Star Lawn Care spend more than 24 hours each week mowing, weed eating, weeding and maintaining the parking lot. That is a reflection of the caliber of faculty and staff “There are a bunch of small places where a big mower turning around just wouldn’t look good,” said Colvin. Using a push mower allows his team to give VCOM-Louisiana the beautiful freshly mowed “lined” look that adds to its beauty. Colvin gives credit for the lush lawn and beautiful foliage to Petey Griggs Irrigation, which maintains the College’s 24-hour sprinkler system. Of particular note is that the sprinkler system utilizes water from the bayou to irrigate the grounds.
