c. Provide support to hospitals to develop new graduate medical education programs including but not limited to financial feasibility studies for GME and assistance in developing Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) program applications. d. VCOM will support on annual research days for scholarly activity with resident recognition awards and residents with research assistance. e. VCOM will financially and academically support an array of educational and research resources where partnerships develop collaborations with GME programs on research f. Assist core sites who have GME programs with academics including, where requested, curriculum, faculty development, an online board prep program for residents, onsite research assistance and statistical assistance, and a web-based evaluation system. g. VCOM will continue efforts to develop new residencies where opportunities exist in the states of Virginia, North and South Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana, and surrounding states in the Appalachian and Delta regions. 5. The VCOM Graduate Medical Education Division, including the Vice Provost for GME and the Director, will provide college-wide support for GME development. 6. The on-campus Associate Deans for GME and OMS 4 will, along with the VCOM Clinical Chairs provide: a. Assistance for VCOM students to develop the credentials for acceptance into GME b. Counseling to assist students in developing and improving their academic CV across the years c. Assistance for OMS 4 students through the application process with residency placement d. Assure VCOM graduate placement into GME with a minimum of 85% first time match placement or above and 98% or greater final match placement. e. Maintain a residency placement database to assist students to connect with alumni who have completed residency where the student desires to apply f. Continue to support the Mission of providing physicians for the rural and medically underserved areas in the Appalachian and Delta regions of the Southeast U.S. throughout the process of residency placement into programs most likely to serve the rural and medically underserved areas. 4. DURATION OF POLICY The VCOM Policy for Planning and Promoting Graduate Medical Education is effective as of the date above and shall remain effective until amended or terminated by the President and Provost.
