required between the counselor and administration, and only upon approval by the student. 3.1 24-Hour/365 Days a Year Emergency Counseling Services VCOM provides 24-hour emergency counseling services to all students through each campus’ affiliated community-based counseling service and to OMS-3 and OMS-4 students through WellConnect. 4. HEALTH SERVICES VCOM assures access to health services that includes diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic health services. These are available to students through agreements with local primary care health providers. VCOM also assures that students have access to emergency services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year within the community where the campus is located or in the communities of our core hospital sites. Health services are confidential. OMS 1 and OMS 2 students are provided with information regarding these services at orientation each year. The information for eligible providers at each core site is also provided to OMS 3 and OMS 4 students by the DSME and Site Coordinator. Provider information can also be found on the VCOM website. Health professionals providing health services to students, through a physician-patient relationship, must recuse him/herself from the academic assessment or promotion of the student receiving those services. VCOM OMS 3 and OMS 4 students may participate in rotations with healthcare providers that offer healthcare services to other VCOM students. In this case, OMS 3 and OMS 4 students may not participate in another student’s healthcare and may not view another student’s health record. In addition, if any student being treated identifies that an OMS 3 or OMS 4 student is present in the room, he or she should request the student not be involved in their care, informing the student and the physician providing the care. As the VCOM clinical training sites (physician or student) may not identify the patient as a VCOM student, it is an expectation that students seeking healthcare services in these sites identify themselves as a VCOM student. 5. DURATION OF POLICY The VCOM Student Health and Counseling Policy established by the Administration, Medical Education, and Clinical Affairs is effective as of the date above and shall remain effective until amended or terminated by the President , with approval by the Board of Directors.
