The President may also appoint the Directors for Human Resources to serve as the Infectious Disease Officer assuring faculty and staff safety, the Associate Deans for Student Affairs to serve as the Infectious Disease Officer assuring OMS 1 and OMS 2 student safety on campus., and the Associate Deans for Clinical Affairs to serve as the Infectious Disease Officer assuring OMS 3 and OMS 4 student safety. At times of infectious disease outbreaks that threaten a greater portion of campus employees and/or student body, specific policies and procedures will be developed and posted to the website for faculty, staff, and students. Faculty, staff, and students will be notified via email and the website. VCOM will follow policies and procedures set forth by the CDC and the state and local health department during times of outbreaks and/or pandemics to assure faculty, staff, and student health safety during such outbreaks. 7. HEALTHCARE AND INSURANCE 7.1 VCOM Student Health Program and Health Insurance VCOM students are required to have health insurance. VCOM purchases a student health insurance for each student unless the student chooses to “opt-out” due to having another insurance plan in place. When this occurs, the student must confirm with proof the insurance is in place annually. VCOM assures each student has access to primary care services near campus in the first two years and in the clinical site in years 3 and 4. In the first two years, VCOM contracts with local primary care providers to assure services are in place and students pay a limited co-pay amount for up to 7 visits. These services are contracted to provide services for all students from each campus. In the regional core sites, the Director of Student Medical Education assures primary care services are available for VCOM students. Students may also return to campus when desired to utilize the same physicians as in the OMS 1 and 2 years.
