PURPOSE The purpose of the VCOM Campus Health and Safety Policy is to promote the health, safety, and well-being of students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This policy identifies the authority and responsibility for the proper management of the college’s health and safety program in accordance with applicable policies and regulatory requirements. 2. POLICY STATEMENT The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine is committed to protecting the health and safety of its students, faculty, staff, and visitors as well as the environment. This is achieved through appropriate compliance with the college’s policies and applicable laws and regulations. Responsibility for the administration of the college’s environmental safety program is delegated to the Vice President for Operations. The responsibility for the College’s health safety program is delegated to the Provost and the Dean on each VCOM Campus. The college will fully comply with federal and state laws and regulations and other applicable requirements relating to environmental health and safety. These laws, regulations, and requirements, as well as institutional policy, guide the development of institutional programs and procedures which will facilitate compliance. VCOM will consult with external agencies and regulatory bodies as appropriate. Compliance with policies, procedures, guidelines, and applicable laws and regulations are the shared responsibility of all faculty, staff, and students. 3. COMPLIANCE RESPONSIBILITY All supervisors and employees are responsible for assuring compliance with applicable health and safety policies and procedures of the college. Responsibility for compliance follows the administrative channels noted below. 3.1 Department of Operations The Vice President for Operations and the Director for Facilities on each campus is responsible for: • Identifying potentially hazardous conditions through regular inspections of the college facilities, including but not limited to laboratories, buildings, research facilities, classrooms, offices, and campus grounds;
