PURPOSE The Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine strives to create an atmosphere of safety and comfort which allows faculty, staff, and students to concentrate on their mission of providing academics and student services and on learning. The goal of the operations department is to oversee the campus facilities, to assist those in charge of each facility, in providing a safe and secure environment. The purpose of the VCOM Crime Statistics Report and Annual Security Report Policies and Procedures is to outline the policies and procedures guiding the VCOM Crime Statistics Report and the Annual Security Report required by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. 2. CLERY CRIME STATISTICS REPORT The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, codified at 20 USC 1092 (f) (Clery Act) as a part of the Higher Education Act of 1965, is a federal law that requires colleges and universities to disclose annual information about campus crime. Each year, VCOM files a report with the United States Department of Education stating the incidences of crime on each VCOM campus. The VCOM Department of Operations has been designated as the department responsible for compiling and reporting the college’s crime statistics. The crime statistics include reports made in good faith which are collected from the VCOM Department of Operations and designated “campus security authorities” as defined under the Clery Act. Additionally, referrals for disciplinary action are requested from VCOM’s Title IX Coordinators, and the Department of Student Affairs.
