VCOM Policy and Procedure

Policy #F006

 Objectives o Faculty must ensure that the learning objectives included in SDL/SGL presentations have been updated to reflect the most current lecture objectives that correlate with the course objectives as approved by the Curriculum Oversight Committee. Question(s)/Case(s) o Faculty must include questions and/or case(s) derived from the content of their presentation. This provides students with context for the material they are learning when they are studying outside of the classroom.  References o SDL/SGL presentations are subject to the same citation guidelines as other works, as such, they must include a reference page. Refer to the citation section below for specific information. 3.2 Length SDLs/SGLs are typically allotted 1 hour of initial review time; therefore, modules must be designed to ensure that students can complete the initial review in 1 hour. As such, a 1-hour SDL/SGL must not exceed 15 pages of content, including images. If the SDL/SGL is in a PowerPoint format, the SDL/SGL must follow the guidelines for PowerPoint Presentations as outline above. 3.3 Font SDLs/SGLs must utilize a style of font that is easy to read and must be a minimum of a 12-point for the body of the SDL/SGL. Avoid serif fonts as they are sometimes more difficult to read; instead select a sans-serif font such as Ariel or Helvetica. Font colors must be in shades that are easily readable and allow for ease of printing (do not use white font on dark backgrounds). 3.4 Images Images that are included in an SDL/SGL presentation should serve to enhance the content that is being presented. Images selected must be of good quality and appropriate to the content. If a faculty member includes links to other websites within the SDL/SGL, the faculty member ensure that the links are current and in working order. 3.5 Citations and Copyright SDLs/SGLs are subject to the same citation guidelines as other works. When quoting materials from other sources the source must be cited in text and in a reference list. Images are also subject to citation guidelines. If another VCOM instructor developed all or parts of an SDL/SGL, their contribution must be cited appropriately, giving proper credit to the original author for their work. This may done on the title page or the reference page. 
