VCOM College Catalog and Student Handbook

OMS 3 and OMS 4 Tardiness Tardiness is defined as arriving more than 5 minutes after the scheduled time the preceptor designates as the expected arrival time. Students are expected to arrive on time to all clinical rotations. If a student is late, he/she must notify the Site Coordinator and the preceptor prior to arrival. Students must have a reason for being late such as illness or vehicle issues, and it is not anticipated that this would occur on more than one occasion. Repeated tardiness is considered as unprofessional behavior and is a reason for dismissal from a rotation. Students with repeated tardiness will be referred to the Honor Code Council. Didactic, Case Presentations, and OMM Workshop Attendance Students are required to attend VCOM and clinical site didactics, case presentations, and OMM workshops as scheduled by VCOM and the DSME's office. It is the student's responsibility to be aware of this schedule and attend all required activities. VCOM will publish a monthly didactic calendar. Responsibilities to the precepting faculty do not take precedence over required didactics unless so determined by the DSME. Students must be prompt to all didactics as well as rotations. In addition to the VCOM sponsored didactics, each rotation may have specific requirements such as case presentations, morning reports, OMM workshops, etc. These also may vary by site. Students should complete all requirements set by their site. Didactic Attendance Students are to attend all didactic programs unless excused by the DSME. Students may only be excused if they are: a) On their scheduled surgery rotation and scrubbed in for a procedure. • Students must notify their site coordinator by phone and follow-up via email the day of the educational program; AND

• The attending physician must sign and submit documentation indicating that the student was involved in a specific procedure. This documentation must be submitted to the DSME by noon of the day after the missed program or workshop.

b) On their scheduled OB/GYN rotation and in a delivery or surgical procedure.

• Students notify their site coordinator by phone and follow-up via email the day of the educational program or workshop; AND • The attending physician must sign and submit documentation indicating that the student was involved in a delivery or specific procedure. This documentation must be submitted to the DSME by noon of the day after the missed educational program or workshop.

The student who is excused from the OMM workshop will need to remediate the workshop prior to promotion to the next academic year. Case Presentation Attendance Students are to attend all morning report case presentations unless excused in advance by the DSME and Site Coordinator. Students may only be excused if they are:
