VCOM College Catalog and Student Handbook
Option 1: Attend a VCOM approved external immersion program. External immersion programs are generally held for a period of 4 – 6 weeks. Students typically need an additional 2 – 4 weeks of independent study following the immersion program before they feel ready to sit for the exam. Attendance in an external immersion program may require the cancellation of not more than two rotations in order to complete the program and take the exam. Students whose rotations are delayed due to attending an external immersion program will be placed on an Altered Degree Plan of Study (ADPOS). Students who choose to attend a VCOM approved external immersion program are enrolled in VCOM’s National Board Preparation course. Students may not be enrolled in the course for longer than 60 days. Students must follow and complete the prescribed remediation plan as designed in order to be allowed to sit for an additional attempt of COMLEX Level 2 CE. This includes requiring the student to submit to CIFSS updates regarding study plan progress and question bank performance as outlined in the course syllabus. VCOM will evaluate students’ completion of the prescribed remediation plan when evaluating students’ readiness to retake COMLEX Level 2 CE and approving the students’ testing date. Option 2: Follow an independent study plan. Those students who do not choose to attend an external immersion program and who choose to follow an independent study plan, will continue to study for their next attempt of COMLEX Level 2 CE while they are on clinical rotations. Students must follow and complete the prescribed remediation plan as designed in order to be allowed to sit for an additional attempt of COMLEX Level 2 CE. This includes requiring the student to submit to CIFSS updates regarding study plan progress and question bank performance as outlined in the course syllabus. VCOM will evaluate students’ completion of the prescribed remediation plan when evaluating students’ readiness to retake COMLEX Level 2 CE and approving the students’ testing date. o Students who have failed COMLEX Level 2 CE three times will be brought before the Promotion Board to be placed on academic probation. o Students who have failed COMLEX Level 2 CE four times will be brought before the Promotion Board to be dismissed as students are required by VCOM and NBOME to pass within four attempts. COMLEX Level 2 CE: Students Who Have Not Passed by the Date of Graduation A student who has not passed COMLEX Level 2 CE by the date of graduation but has completed all other graduation requirements will be required to follow one of the three procedures below, according to which of the three match their status at the time of graduation. 1. A student who has taken COMLEX Level 2 CE prior to the date of graduation and is awaiting a COMLEX Level 2 CE score at the time of graduation will be temporarily withdrawn by the Campus Dean. The student is then required to submit a passing score for COMLEX Level 2 CE within 45 days following graduation. • Upon receiving a passing score, if all other requirements for graduation have been met, the student will be re-enrolled and will graduate on the date they receive a passing score. • If the student receives a failing score, the student will remain on temporary withdrawal and must successfully pass COMLEX Level 2 CE within a required timeframe to avoid dismissal.
