T he Medical Outreach and Volunteer Effort (MOVE) continued VCOM’s mission statement to prepare community-focused physicians to meet the needs of rural and medically underserved populations by participating in volunteer efforts throughout the community. The organization’s main project, volunteering at St. Luke’s Free Medical Clinic, continued to be one of VCOM-Carolina’s main volunteer events for students. Through this event, students practice their patient interaction skills by performing intake

at the only free clinic in Spartanburg County. Students gained a firsthand experience with prominent ailments that affect the underserved population in the community and were also given the option to shadow doctors in the clinic to see community care in action. MOVE members also participated in various events held by other organizations, such as the annual Pediatric Wellness Fair hosted by ACOP and National Osteopathic Medicine Week.
