CAROLINAS STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS
OB/GYN Obstetrics and Gynecology
The Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB-GYN) student organization has served as a hub for students who show interest in the obstetric and gynecologic fields of medicine. The main goal of this organization is to provide members with opportunities to learn more about careers in OB-GYN, and how to build a portfolio strong enough to compete for an OB-GYN residency. The OB-GYN student organization held events that varied from ultrasound clinics to yoga sessions and hosted guest speakers such as David Godwin, MD, an OB-GYN from St. Francis Health System in Greenville, SC. A great deal of time and energy goes into developing opportunities for the members of the OB-GYN student organization. OB-GYN also collaborated with other student organizations for events such as the suture clinic with the ACOEP organization, and the fertility round table discussion with the ACOP student organization. In addition to clinical experiences, guest speakers and group activity, OB-GYN also encourages national collaboration. Every year, members
James Wallace, President; Lindsy Godair, Vice President; Sarah Davis, Secretary
of OB-GYN attend the ACOOG conference, where they are able to interact with other healthcare professionals who are either already working in the field, or plan to practice in the field one day. The student organization buffers the cost of the trip to incentivize its members to participate and represent VCOM- Carolinas.
