VCOM - Carolinas 2016 Yearbook

Via Wellness

T he purpose of the Via Wellness program at the VCOM–Carolinas campus is to promote a healthy mind, body, and spirit. The program provides enrichment to campus life through a wide variety of sports, fitness and exercise, as well as social, cultural and spiritual events. Students, faculty, staff and their family members are welcome to participate in all Via Wellness activities at VCOM– Carolinas and in the community. Fitness awards are provided for those who achieve various levels of participation. The four Via Wellness committees (social, physical, spirit and intellectual) hosted a

variety of events on and off- campus this year, including collecting items for those in need after the South Carolina flood in the fall, VCOM Olympics, hockey and baseball games, hiking, group yoga, Ash Wednesday service on campus, Relay for Life, ice skating at Morgan Square, and the Annual Via Wellness Holiday Potluck Lunch that has become a tradition for faculty, staff and students. VCOM–Carolinas students understand the importance of staying active and being involved in community fitness activities in their free time. This year, students participated in local 5k, 10k and half marathon road

races, and spent time working out at the local YMCA and CrossFit facilities, hiking, biking, rock climbing, and participating in other outdoor sports. The College also offers intramural sports leagues in the fall and spring, and our students, faculty and staff have begun participating in area softball leagues in the spring and summer as well. No matter what your interest or favorite activity might be, VCOM–Carolinas and Spartanburg are great places to be active and promote physical wellness in the community.
