T he Sigma Sigma Phi Chi Alpha Chapter (SSP) at VCOM– Carolinas prides itself on being an organization with members who are both academically successful and service oriented. During the 2015-2016 school year, the organization staffed volunteers for the Class of 2019 White Coat Ceremony and the Class of 2016 Commencement Ceremony.

A representative of SSP attended the national meeting in Orlando, Florida, during OMED, the annual Osteopathic Medical Conference and Exposition. Academic peer mentoring workshops were created and presented to first year students with the help of the Director for the VCOM–Carolinas Center for Institutional, Faculty and Student Success. Topics for the

workshops included: note-taking skills, test-taking strategies and class specific tips. SSP also has members staffing COMLEX tutoring sessions for second year students. To finish out the year, the organization participated as volunteers for the first VCOM– Carolinas Research Day event.
