VCOM 2024 Annual Report
Healthcare Workforce Affiliate
National Center for the Analysis of Healthcare Data (NCAHD) T he National Center for the Analysis of Healthcare Data (NCAHD) was established in 2007 as a national research center to support not only VCOM’s faculty, students and staff needs relative to the healthcare workforce, but other healthcare-related public and private entities. NCAHD is the only national healthcare workforce research center with an alumni tracking process that combines an automated matching program utilizing both our own Enhanced State Licensure (ESL) data along with other national datasets (e.g. the NPI, etc.). Additionally, the center utilizes Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to generate proximity analysis for current federal rural, medically underserved areas/population (MUA/P), and HRSA’s Health Professional Shortage Areas (for both primary care physicians and dentists— commonly referred to as PC HPSA). NCAHD uses the ESL to track physician (DO and MD) alumni and map the disparity in primary care access between rural and urban areas. The center can track other healthcare providers, too. For more information, visit the full description on their website: https://www.ncahd.org/alumni-tracking/ In 2018, NCAHD partnered with the National Center for Rural Health Works to create a new methodology to determine specialty physician needs and demands called the Specialty Physician Supply and Demand Tool (SPSDT).
