Center for One Health Located on the Virginia Tech campus, the Center for One Health was remodeled to be a collaborative research laboratory for biomedical faculty from VCOM and the Virginia Tech Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. Along with laboratory space, the collaborative research center and program offers a program for VCOM and Virginia Tech collaborating faculty to qualify for seed grants for research for

each laboratory. The program has led to many externally funded grants including NIH funding.

Blacksburg Community and Area Blacksburg is a desirable place to live, with a host of activities in the downtown area typical of a university community. The town also has excellent schools. The Blacksburg community adjoins Christiansburg with a combined population of approximately 70,000 exclusive of the 30,000+ students at Virginia Tech. Located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountain region, a multitude of opportunities exist for outdoor activities that include hiking, bicycling,

2006 (cont.) VCOM opens the Sports Medicine Fellowship in collaboration with Virginia Tech. This collaboration has led to a nationally recognized Sports Medicine program that now includes Auburn University and the University of Louisiana Monroe.

2007 VCOM-Virginia graduates its inaugural class of 139 outstanding physicians. After five site visits with no deficiencies and multiple commendations, VCOM receives its 7-year accreditation from COCA.

The VCOM Amphitheater is built, offering a sheltered stage, hillside seating and adding fountains to the pond in that location. A walking path from the amphitheater winds through the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center.
