VCOM II In the summer of 2009, VCOM opened the VCOM Institute for Biomechanical and Sports Medicine Education and Research in the VCOM II building. This building houses cutting-edge collaborative biomechanical research programs and accommodates the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute’s sophisticated crash sled that is used for the study of impact injury biomechanics and the prevention of such injuries. The 11,000 square foot teaching center houses VCOM’s College-wide administration and is used for student education in neuromusculoskeletal medicine with a state

2002 Groundbreaking is held in the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center. Construction begins on the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia. VCOM Virginia History Timeline

2003 The VCOM main building is completed and the first osteopathic medical school in Virginia opens. The first class of students matriculates.

2006 Year-round VCOM clinics open in Veron, Dominican Republic and El Salvador, Honduras, providing free medical care, prenatal care and immunizations to thousands of children.

VCOM is authorized to recruit and admit students by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia, the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA), and the United States Department of Education.
