o VCOM reserves the right to consider how applicants present themselves via online media networks. This information can be used to determine whether the applicant has appropriate characteristics (ethical and professional) to be a successful VCOM employee. This information may also be used to determine whether the candidate represents a threat to other faculty, staff, or students. • Conduct a criminal background check o Candidates must sign the approval form for the background check at the time of interview. Should a candidate refuse to participate in the background screening, they will be removed as a candidate for the position. • Contact references o The Director for Human Resources will check a minimum of three references for candidates to provide verification of the candidates’ employment, work habits, and interpersonal skills utilizing the Reference Check Guidelines (see Appendix B) and Faculty Recruitment Reference Check Form (See Appendix C). The responses to the reference check questions will be retained with the candidate’s recruitment record. Additional references may be sought by the Associate Dean and/or Campus Dean. Human Resources will provide the Associate Dean and Campus Dean with the results. 3.8 Offer Extension Upon approval by the Campus Dean, the President, and Provost, the Associate Dean will contact the selected candidate to make a verbal offer of the position. All verbal offers of employment to prospective faculty members are contingent on verification of necessary academic credentials, licensure, and certifications. If the candidate is still interested in the position upon receiving a verbal offer, the Director for Human Resources will contact the candidate to request the below credentialing documentation (if not already included with the application): • Official Terminal Degree Transcript(s) o Faculty members must provide, at their own expense, official transcripts of their highest degree earned. o For the purpose of accreditation and state licensure, proof of degree of a faculty member whose degree is less than doctoral, must be accompanied by a letter from the Campus Dean that:  Justifies the faculty member’s professional and scholarly achievements and/or demonstrated competences in the discipline of hire. o For the purpose of accreditation and state licensure, proof of degree of a faculty member whose doctoral degree comes from outside the U.S., must be accompanied by a letter from the Campus Dean that:  Justifies the faculty member’s professional and scholarly achievements

and/or demonstrated competences in the discipline of hire, and  States the findings of the transcript evaluation service as to the equivalency and verification process of the degree (a copy of the report from the evaluation service must be included).

• Additional documents required for physician faculty: o Copy of medical school degree diploma o Copy of residency diploma (if applicable)
