Position Classification

Job classifications are based on duties, responsibilities, knowledge, and skills associated with the position and performance. The classification does not consider the employee’s personal background such as age or degree. Pay scales are based on job classification, job performance, job skills, administrative duties, and number of years with the College. Full-Time Regular Employees Employees hired to work for VCOM at minimum of 32 hours per workweek and up to 40 hours per workweek on a regular basis are considered full-time employees. Such an employee may be “exempt” or “nonexempt” as defined below. Part-Time or Wage-Employees Employees hired to work for VCOM less than 32 hours per workweek on a regular basis are considered part-time employees. These employees will be eligible for only those benefits required by law. Such employees are nonexempt as defined below. Administrative Supervisory Staff Administrative supervisory staff are those who hold administrative supervisory positions. Administrative supervisory staff positions are reserved for persons in leadership roles and includes supervisory positions at the Directo- level and above. Administrative supervisory staff are generally expected to complete their duties within the 40-hour workweek; however, duties often require these persons to exceed the 40-hour workweek. As such, they are considered exempt employees as defined below.
