VCOM College Catalog and Student Handbook
students have built with hospitals, residency programs, and individual preceptors is one of trust and respect, which includes honoring our commitment to scheduled rotations. Disrupting that trust could adversely affect VCOM students’ ability to rotate with the site in the future.
The following guidelines have been established for any request for changes to the rotation schedule:
• Requests for a change in rotation schedule must be submitted a minimum of 30 days in advance of the rotation using the Change of Rotation Request Form from their home campus. o A Change of Rotation Request Form must be completed, and students must explain the reason for the change request on the form. Upon receipt of the Change of Rotation Request form, the Associate Dean for OMS 4 and GME will review the information and make a decision. The Director of OMS 4 Clinical Rotations will notify the student as to the approval or disapproval of the request. If the student is not satisfied with the outcome of the decision, they may appeal the decision to the Campus Dean whose decision will be final. • Students may not request more than three schedule changes for the OMS 4 year (the limit of three changes does not apply to rotations that have been denied by the site). • Submission of a request for a change in a rotation, even if submitted within the above guidelines, does not guarantee approval of the request. Notice of Site/Rotation Changes Initiated by the Site and/or Clinical Affairs Hospital sites are subject to change based on the hospital resources, clinical faculty resources, student training needs, and/or administrative changes in hospitals. As VCOM does not own the clinical training sites, site changes may occur based on changes in hospital ownership, educational needs of the student, changes in hospital and VCOM agreements, loss of a teaching physician at a specific hospital, and/or a change in resources of the hospital. When this occurs, VCOM will provide notice to the student as soon as the Office of Clinical Affairs is made aware, and the students will be contacted individually in order to schedule the best possible alternate site for the rotations.
