Failure to disclose a substance use condition that subsequently results in impairment, patient safety concerns, professional misconduct, or violation of institutional policies will be considered unprofessional conduct and will result in disciplinary action, up to and including dismissal/termination. 7. SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION Information regarding the risks associated with the use of illicit drugs and the misuse of alcohol, including applicable health consequences and legal sanctions, is distributed annually to students and employees. This information is available through Student Affairs and online. Confidential counseling services are available to all students seeking assistance with substance use concerns; however, the cost of external counseling, evaluation, or treatment services is the responsibility of the student. In addition, all students and employees are required to complete VCOM’s alcohol abuse prevention program. Education regarding substance use, addiction, impairment, and professional responsibilities is also incorporated into the Block 1 Professionalism and Ethics course. 8. D URATION OF P OLICY The Alcohol and Drug Testing and Abuse Prevention Policy is effective as of the date above and will remain effective until amended or terminated by the President, with approval by the Board of Directors.
