for an automatic remediation or reattempt by the Associate Dean, without being referred to the Promotion Board. These include: • In the OMS 1 and OMS 2 years, students who have earned one F grade for a required component of a course (i.e. anatomy lecture, anatomy practical, PPC/OMM lecture, PPC/OMM practical, ICC, simulation, etc.) but who have a final course grade of 70 percent or greater, will be allowed by the Associate Dean for Pre-Clinical Medical Education to remediate the single component of the course (lecture or lab component) over the one week period during block break without coming before the Promotion Board, if it is the first time that they have failed a component of any course during the academic year. • In the OMS 1 and OMS 2 years, students who have failed a component of the ICC course are allowed one opportunity by the Associate Dean for Simulation and Technology and the Associate Dean for Pre-Clinical Medical Education to remediate that component over the one-week period during block break without coming before the Promotion Board. • In the OMS 3 year, students who have failed an end-of-rotation exam on the first attempt are allowed a second opportunity by the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs to pass the end-of-rotation exam without coming before the Promotion Board. • In the OMS 3 year, students who fail more than one first attempt failure of end-of-rotation exams within a semester (i.e. failed the first attempt end-of-rotation exam for pediatrics and failed the first attempt end-of rotation exam for surgery within the first semester), even if the student has successfully remediated the prior end-of-rotation exam on the second attempt, will be placed on academic probation (at a minimum through their OMS 3 year) by the Campus Dean. • Students who fall into any of the following scenarios will be brought before the Campus Dean, without coming before the Promotion Board, for administration of actions dictated by VCOM policy. o COMLEX Level 1: Failed the 3 rd attempt of the exam used as the final exam of the Block 8 Comprehensive Review course. The Campus Dean will review and approve (with or without changes) the remediation plan established by the Director for Student and Institutional Academic Success and the Associate Dean for Pre-Clinical Medical Education. Failed to sit for COMLEX Level 1 by the first day of the OMS 3 year (if not enrolled in a college approved immersion program). The Campus Dean will place the student on temporary administrative withdrawal with a timeline to pass the exam. Failed to receive a passing COMLEX Level 1 by the first day of the second semester of the OMS 3 year. The Campus Dean will place the student on temporary administrative withdrawal with a timeline to pass the exam. Failed the 3 rd attempt of COMLEX Level 1. The Campus Dean will review and approve (with or without changes) the remediation plan established by the Director for Student and Institutional Academic Success and the Associate Dean for Pre-Clinical Medical Education. Failed the 4 th attempt of COMLEX Level 1. Students are limited by the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) and VCOM to a total of four attempts on COMLEX Level 1. As successful passage of COMLEX Level 1 is a requirement for graduation, those students who do not pass within four attempts will be dismissed by the Campus Dean. Failed to follow the required remediation plan for a failure of the exam used as the final exam of the Block 8 Comprehensive Review Course or COMLEX Level 1. The Campus Dean will place the student on temporary administrative withdrawal or refer the student to the Promotion Board for consideration for dismissal. o COMLEX Level 2: Failed the 2 nd attempt of the final exam of the comprehensive review course. The Campus Dean will review and approve the remediation plan (with or without changes) established
