c. The Director of IT will request quotes from vendors for requested software and hardware on an annual basis. These quotes will be submitted to the Associate Vice President for Operations who will submit for approval during the annual budget process. d. All requests require the purchaser’s name and department and the reason for purchase to help identify processing power needed. e. All requests must be routed to the requesting department chair for purchase approval. If this approval is not obtained, the Business Office will return the purchase request to the department making the purchase request. f. All requests will adhere to current VCOM purchasing procedures. All VCOM employees are provided with the computer workstation upon hire. This workstation may be 1) desktop computer with keyboard, mouse and a 17-inch or better, flat panel display, OR 2) a laptop with docking station, keyboard, mouse and a 17-inch or better, flat panel display. Employees who need to purchase information technology equipment beyond the provided computer equipment, must first consult with the respective campus Information Technology staff to ensure that the equipment will function properly on the VCOM network and with other IT related configurations. Information Technology staff will assist the requestor in preparing the purchase order for approval. If approval has been denied by Information Technology staff, faculty and staff can appeal through the Dean. Before ordering any information technology equipment, all requests must be routed to the Associate Vice President for Operations for purchase approval. If the Associate Vice President for Operations has not approved the request, the Business Office will not purchase the item and instead return the purchase order to the requesting department. 3.1 Minimum Standards for Computer Workstations When requesting additional computer workstations outside of the equipment provided by VCOM, the following minimum standards must be met: a. Intel i3, or greater, processor. b. Minimum of 4 GB of RAM. c. Monitors—1024 X 768 (minimum) VGA/DVI. Minimum 17-inch flat panel displays should be obtained. d. Minimum of 120GB hard drive; 48X CD-ROM or 8X DVD drive with CD/DVD burner software. e. Ethernet card capable of connection to campus network – minimum 10/100/1000MB card. f. Minimum three-year warranty for parts, service, onsite service. 3. PURCHASING HARDWARE AND OTHER IT EQUIPMENT
3.2 Minimum Standards for Laptop Computers When requesting a laptop computer, the following minimum standards must be met:
a. Intel i3, or greater, processor. b. Minimum of 4 GB of RAM. c. Minimum of 120GB hard drive; 48X CD-ROM or 8X DVD drive with CD/DVD burner software. d. Ethernet card capable of connection to campus network – minimum of 10/100/1000MB card.
