VCOM Computer Support Policy _____________________________________________________________________________________
1.
PURPOSE The Computer Support Policy details the support for the computer systems owned by VCOM and supported by the Information Technology Departments on both campuses. VCOM information technology resources constitute a valuable asset that must be managed accordingly to endure their integrity, security, and availability for teaching, research and business activities. In order to maintain these assets, VCOM has established basic information technology security policies to provide both access and reasonable security at an acceptable cost. VCOM’s information technology policies and procedures are intended to facilitate and support authorized access and use to VCOM information and its systems. COMPUTER SUPPORT Support for the computer systems owned by VCOM is provided through the Information Technology (IT) Department. This department should be contacted when information or support is needed concerning VCOM owned computer systems and software. The IT Department is available for consultation with regards to the purchase of workstations and software, and will secure all quotations for computer equipment procurement. Please refer to VCOM’s IT Equipment Acquisition/Asset Management and Configuration Policy and Procedures (Policy # U009) for additional information regarding purchasing IT-related equipment. All VCOM owned computer equipment is covered through warranties which are kept by IT. The IT Department will coordinate repairs and determine whether or not to extend warranties with the vendor or maintain the system configuration. Cost of extended warranties and repairs will be charged to the appropriate department and departmental budget. VCOM does not purchase or support the MAC platform. 2.
