VCOM On-Campus Electronic Communication Policy _____________________________________________________________________________________
1.
PURPOSE The purpose of the VCOM On-Campus Electronic Communication Policy is to provide guidance to VCOM faculty, staff and students as to the acceptable use, and misuse of this technology.
2. APPROPRIATE ON - CAMPUS INTERNET BEHAVIOR
Faculty and staff will be issued computers with access to the Internet. Faculty and staff Internet usage requires good judgment, common sense, and careful discretion. Use of VCOM computer systems and resources to gain access to remote systems or offensive sites, as determined by VCOM, is prohibited. On-campus use of internet or wireless internet use with a VT PID is for work related activity; therefore, personal use of the internet should be limited and must not disrupt the operation of VCOM’s network or interfere with the employee’s productivity. Computer use is meant for work related purposes only; therefore, when an employee is terminated or leaves the institution, email may be accessed to continue uninterrupted computer related work. Faculty, staff and students are held personally accountable for internet conduct that negatively impacts VCOM’s mission. This may include, but is not limited to, public internet activities or website references where faculty, staff or students represent themselves as a VCOM faculty, staff or student, and inappropriately share information related to VCOM, and/or make inappropriate/unprofessional statements that negatively impact VCOM. VCOM reserves the right to implement and install content filtering hardware to log and restrict internet usage on VCOM’s network. These logs may be reviewed by VCOM administration immediately or at a later date.
