2.8 Balance PowerPoint presentations must effectively balance the amount of text and images used on each slide. Presentations should be neither text heavy nor image heavy. 2.9 Citations and Copyright PowerPoint presentations are subject to the same citation guidelines as other works. When quoting materials from other sources, the source must be cited in text and in a reference list. Images are also subject to citation guidelines. If another VCOM instructor developed all or parts of a PowerPoint, their contribution must be cited appropriately, giving proper credit to the original author for their work. This may done in the title slide or the reference slide. VCOM requires faculty to use information from textbooks or literature that is peer reviewed, up-to-date, and accurate. For example, Wikipedia is not an appropriate source for academic content. Faculty members are responsible for adhering to copyright guidelines and the use of copied materials. The Fair Use Doctrine, as designated by Public Law 94-153, allows copying in certain instances without permission from or payment to the copyright owner. Under this law, it is fair use to reproduce copyrighted materials for purposes of criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, or research. If a faculty member is not sure of the copyright guidelines pertaining to instructional materials, they should consult the librarian. Educational materials and other intellectual property created as a part of a faculty Student Directed Learning modules (SDLs) or Small Group Learning modules (SGLs) follow a self-instructional format that allows students to explore concepts independently. As students complete SDLs/SGLs outside of the formal instructional environment, it is important that the SDL/SGL be organized to allow for independent learning. 3.1 Format SDLs/SGLs may be in Microsoft Word, PDF, or PowerPoint format. If the SDL/SGL is in a PowerPoint format, the SDL/SGL must follow the guidelines for PowerPoint Presentations as outline above. In addition to the body of the SDL/SGL, presentations at VCOM must include the following:  Title o Faculty must ensure that the title of their presentation matches the title of the SDL/SGL, as approved by the Curriculum Oversight Committee and as posted in the block calendar and course syllabus. member’s position at VCOM will be property of VCOM. 3.
