o Justifies the faculty member’s professional and scholarly achievements and/or demonstrated competences in the discipline of hire. • For the purpose of accreditation and state licensure, proof of degree of an academic track faculty member whose doctoral degree comes from outside the U.S., must be accompanied by a letter from the Campus Dean that: o Justifies the faculty member’s professional and scholarly achievements and/or demonstrated competences in the discipline of hire, and o States the findings of the transcript evaluation service as to the equivalency and verification process of the degree (a copy of the report from the evaluation service must be included). 4. Proof of post-graduate training for physicians in the patient care environment may be in the form of a: • Residency certificate; or • If a residency certificate is not available, proof of initial board certification and personal verification of having completed post-graduate training will suffice. 5. Proof of a current medical license in the state in which they practice with no sanctions for physicians in the patient care environment. 6. Proof of board certification or board eligibility in the specialty being taught at some time in their career for physicians in the patient care environment at a VCOM affiliated core rotation site; • Proof of board certification may be in the form of: o A copy of the certificate; or o A verification report obtained from the certifying board. • Proof of board eligibility may be in the form of: o Proof of post-graduate training and proof of current state medical licensure when initial board certification has not been granted; or o Proof of initial board certification and current state medical licensure. 7. Proof of any additional training certificates if applicable; 8. Proof of prior teaching experience in the classroom or clinical setting (if any) to include: accomplishment in the area of teaching, evaluations of teaching performance conducted by students and/or supervisors, courses/rotations taught, teaching load; and 9. Letter(s) of recommendation: • Candidates must submit at least one letter of recommendation for initial appointment from the candidate’s direct supervisor. If not currently employed, the candidate must submit a letter of recommendation from the previous supervisor. o If the candidate had prior teaching experience in the classroom or clinical setting, the letter of recommendation must address the candidate’s teaching competence. o Candidates may not use letters from friends, collaborative partners in research, previous trainers with whom a relationship is maintained, or relatives. • Research Track candidates must also submit at a letter of endorsement for initial appointment from the VCOM Vice President for Research. A full-or part-time Academic Track candidate seeking initial appointment will submit their completed application packet to the appropriate Associate Dean, who will review the application packet, and will consult with the Associate Dean to determine if any additional information is required. • A biomedical academic track faculty candidate must submit their completed application packet to the Associate Dean for Biomedical Affairs (through the Administrative Assistant). • A clinical academic track faculty candidate must submit their completed application packet to the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs (through the Administrative Assistant).
