may be required to work evening or night hours. If on-call hours are required, the student must take the call; however, the student should not be on duty for greater than 30 continuous hours. Students may be required to work weekends, but in general should have two weekends per month free and two of seven days per week free. Student holidays are determined by the clinical site and follow those of other students and/or residents from the clinical site. Students must be prompt and on time for the clinical rotation. 3.1 Didactic, Case Presentations, and OMM Workshop Attendance Students are required to attend VCOM and clinical site didactics, case presentations, and OMM workshops as scheduled by VCOM and the DSME's office. It is the student's responsibility to be aware of this schedule and attend all required activities. VCOM will publish a monthly didactic calendar. Responsibilities to the precepting faculty do not take precedence over required didactics unless so determined by the DSME. Students must be prompt to all didactics as well as rotations. In addition to the VCOM sponsored didactics, each rotation may have specific requirements such as case presentations, morning reports, OMM workshops, etc. These also may vary by site. Students are required to attend all didactic programs and case presentations unless excused in advance by the DSME. Students may only be excused by the DSME if they meet one of the criteria below. Any other reason for the requested absence must be made through a request for an excused absence following VCOM policy. Students may only be excused by the DSME if they are: • On their scheduled surgery rotation and scrubbed in for a procedure. o Students must notify their site coordinator by phone and follow-up via email the day of the educational program; and o The attending physician must sign and submit documentation indicating that the student was involved in a specific procedure. This documentation must be submitted to the DSME by noon of the day after the missed program. • On their scheduled OB/GYN rotation and in a delivery or surgical procedure. o Students notify their site coordinator by phone and follow-up via email the day of the educational program; and o The attending physician must sign and submit documentation indicating that the student was involved in a delivery or specific procedure. This documentation must be submitted to the DSME by noon of the day after the missed educational program. 3.1.2 OMM Workshop Attendance Students are to attend all OMM workshops unless they qualify for an excused absence due to illness or emergency, and have prior approval. The student who is excused from the OMM workshop will need to remediate the workshop prior to promotion to the next academic year. Mechanism to Verify Attendance – OMS 3 and OMS 4 Students Clinical site coordinators and preceptors document attendance on the student’s rotation evaluation form. This information is reviewed by the Director of 3rd Year Clinical Rotations, the Director of 4th Year Clinical Rotations, the Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs, and the Associate Dean for OMS 4 and GME. 3.2 Students should complete all requirements set by their site. 3.1.1 Didactic and Case Presentation Attendance
