ACOOG American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology

V COM’s American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology (ACOOG) organized a workshop with Carrie Champine, DO, to learn how Long Acting Reversible Contraceptives (LARCS) work. First-and second-year students were taught about different methods of contraception and how to educate future patients about them. They also gained hands- on exposure by practicing with models that were brought to the workshop. • ACOOG organized a Women’s Health Awareness Walk with the ACOFP organization. First-and second-year students from VCOM walked around the Virginia Tech Corporate Research Center

• Fourth-year VCOM students, who had recently been placed into OB/GYN residencies, came back to speak about the process of matching into the specialized programs. First-and second-year students were able to ask questions and learn about the detailed application process. • ACOOG was excited to host a panel of female physicians. The doctors spoke about many issues that affect women in the medical field such as raising a family alongside working, maintaining a balance between work and life, and dealing with issues of discrimination in the workplace.
