Graduating Heroes

T he Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM) honored its graduates that are going on to serve in the Armed Forces during its Military Promotion Ceremony on May 4, 2018. Four graduates from the VCOM Class of 2018 in the Health Professions Scholarship Program, representing various branches of the military, took the oath of office and received their promotion pins. Their commitments to serve as physicians in the United States Armed Forces were celebrated in the ceremony held at Virginia Tech’s War Memorial Chapel. Colonel J. Thomas Hardy, DO, Chief of Staff at the Dayton VA Medical Center in Ohio gave the address. As a proud Army Ranger, Dr. Hardy completed 18 months in Vietnam as an advisor to a Vietnamese infantry unit prior to beginning medical school. He is a graduate of the US Army Flight Surgeon's School, Ft. Rucker, Alabama.
