VCOM - Virginia 2018 Yearbook

Honduras October 2017

V COM has partnered with the Baxter Institute to serve families that make less than a dollar per capita per day in an area of Honduras that desperately lacks medical resources. Together, they run the James Moody Adams (JMA) Clinic providing primary care, gynecology, prenatal care, child nutrition programs, pharmacy services and dentistry. The Honduran Ministry of Health, National Hospital, San Felipe Hospital and UNITEC Medical School also help VCOM with their missions in Honduras.

Outreach Trips 2017-2018 In October 2017, VCOM second-year students, faculty, staff, and preceptors traveled to Tegucigalpa, Honduras for a week-long medical outreach trip. The team was able to care for more than 480 patients in need of medical care. The group visited the nearby Jóvenes orphanage and other secluded communities in the mountainous region to set-up temporary clinics and provide medical care. For VCOM’s partner in the area, the Baxter Institute, the team held a

two-day basic first aid training workshop for its seminary students, staff and visitors.
