Continuing Traditions in Military Medicine Serving Our Country Through Medicine

T he leadership, faculty, staff and clinical sites of VCOM take great pride in training osteopathic medical students who will serve as physicians in the Medical Corps of the United States military. VCOM seeks to accommodate the unique needs of our military students in the four years of undergraduate osteopathic medical education and has developed a number of military and Veterans Administration (VA) clinical training partnerships throughout Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama. The Veterans Medical Center in close-by Salem, Virginia, was one of VCOM’s first clinical partners. VCOM students are determined to become the best physicians they can possibly be. They set high personal goals and demonstrate commitment to important causes. Our military students often go beyond their peers in seeking high levels of performance to suc- cessfully compete for selective military residencies, meet military training requirements within the parameters of the VCOM schedule, and in demonstrating leadership, personal responsibility and patri- otism. Our students are informed and motivated by the bravery and sacrifice of those who have served and are serving in the military. As a retired Navy Medical Corps Captain with 27 years of service, I am honored and proud to mentor and advise current VCOM mili- tary students. VCOM alumni are serving in the reserve and active component forces with distinction. I have complete confidence that current VCOM students will continue this proud tradition of service and duty above self. Carry on!
