ACOP American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians

T he American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians (ACOP) at VCOM uses service and educational events to expose students to the broad field of pediatrics. The group works with community partners to promote osteopathic medicine in the field of pediatrics. • ACOP organized a school-wide shoe drive for two orphanages in El Salvador. Students, faculty and staff all rallied together and brought in enough new pairs of sneakers and socks for all of the children. During the mission trip in January 2018, second-year students had the opportunity to bring the shoes to the orphanages and spent the day playing with the children. • For the holidays, ACOP teamed up with a local pediatrician’s office to raise money to buy Christmas gifts for children whose families were struggling financially. The

group organized a bake sale to show support and raised $415 to buy gifts for each of the children. • During VCOM Alumni Weekend, ACOP members volunteered as babysitters and organized face painting to entertain the alumni’s children. The alumni were thankful for the opportunity to relax and enjoy the weekend with help from ACOP members.
