T he American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine (AOASM) brings together VCOM students that are interested in sports medicine. The group works to acquire a skill set that will be beneficial to them in their future careers, through opportunities such as partnerships with local community sports medicine physicians. The organization is passionate about promoting the benefits of physical activity. ■ ■ On August 20, 2016, AOASM held their Adventure Race at Claytor Lake State Park. The highly competitive group invited everyone to test their running, biking, and kayaking

abilities. Proceeds from the games went to support the J. Michael Bernardo Scholarship Foundation. The scholarship was created for a member of the Class of 2010 who lost his life while on a medical mission in the Dominican Republic.
