VCOM - Virginia 2017 Yearbook

Jan Willcox, DO, FACOFP Dean for the Virginia Campus W e are truly inspired as we celebrate the 11th class to graduate from VCOM-Virginia. Our students and faculty are inspired by the Appalachian and international communities that allow them the opportunities to promote health to their citizens, especially those most in need. We are inspired by physicians and hospitals that have made possible the development of core training sites where our students hone their clinical skills and the art of medicine under expert guidance. We have also collaborated with these individuals and organizations to create 30 residency programs in Virginia alone. Many of the physicians who have occupied the more than 450 residency positions in these post- graduate programs have stayed to practice in the hospitals and communities where they trained. We are inspired by the friends of VCOM who are creating scholarships for our students to ease their financial burdens. Our collaborations with Virginia Tech and the Virginia–Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine have provided faculty and students the opportunity for joint research. This year we celebrated the launch of the Center for One Health where our researchers can work together in an innovative, cross-disciplinary way to promote human, animal and environmental health.
