VCOM - Virginia 2017 Yearbook

Dixie Tooke-Rawlins, DO, FACOFP President and Provost I t is hard to believe the VCOM-Virginia campus has now graduated 11 classes! The Virginia campus students who first came to campus in 2003, have set forth the values of excellence in education, service, and a commitment to the principles of osteopathic medicine. VCOM- Virginia’s commitment to community service, the Appalachian region and global health has been shared by our students, faculty and staff. Our campuses in the Carolinas and Alabama have been inspired to promote the VCOM mission to serve those most in need. As in previous years, VCOM-Virginia students continue to excel academically, with 100 percent residency placement and ranking number 2 in the country for graduates receiving their first choice of residencies. VCOM is 6th among medical schools for graduating the most primary care residents, which is a mission-fulfilling accomplishment that we are extremely proud of. The quality of medical education provided by VCOM has become well- known as our VCOM-Virginia student board scores rank among the highest in the country. VCOM’s commitment to diversity in medicine, military service and rural health provides unique opportunities for our future physicians across the nation. The VCOM mission continues to inspire those who witness our dedication to service, especially throughout the Appalachian region and through our international outreach programs. I hope you will enjoy this publication that shares our students’ accomplishments and the culture of VCOM.
