I n pursuing a doctor of osteopathic medicine degree (DO), one learns that Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine (OMM) truly sets a DO apart as a physician. The Student American Academy of Osteopathy (SAAO) enthusiastically promotes the use and practice of OMM within the student body. As an organization, members primarily focus on helping the student body master OMM techniques and promote its practice. ■ ■ Petite Physicians was an event with Sofia Abraham-Hardee, DO, on March 19, 2016, where

she taught different variations of common OMM techniques that will be useful when used on smaller patients. ■ ■ DO Day on the Drillfield was held on March 20, 2016, where SAAO members promoted National Osteopathic Medicine (NOM) week by helping to set up tables on the Virginia Tech Drillfield and provided OMM screenings to Virginia Tech students. ■ ■ HCMO held a Spanish Health Clinic on March 30, 2016, where SAAO provided OMM screenings.

Eben Alexander, SAAO Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) chair, and put together a PM&R Corrective Exercise Workshop on June 5, 2016. During the corrective exercise workshop, students, fellows and physicians spent an hour learning about what corrective exercise is, the benefits of it, and how to implement it. Additionally, in the middle of the workshop everyone performed a movement analysis on each other to identify movement compensations as well as probable over- and under- active muscle groups.
