T he Student Government Association (SGA) is a student-run organization that serves as the governance body for medical students. SGA plans activities that help to involve and excite the students, handles any issues that may arise with the student body to ensure that the students obtain the best school experience possible, and works closely with administrators, professors, and clinicians to provide an environment for students to promote learning and discovery while emphasizing community, collaboration, and a spirit of unity and enjoyment for the people that we interact with on

a daily basis. SGA is excited to be able to do great things for fellow classmates and join with administration to make medical education a great experience. ■ ■ Altruistic Student of the Block is voted on by the members of SGA once per block immediately following the block in question. The SGA president collects nominations from both the first- and second- year classes to which one winner for both the first- and second-year classes is voted on. The winners receive a $25 Panera gift card and parking in the ASOB parking space for

the entire block. A plaque for winners is updated regularly and is displayed on the right of the main entrance. ■ ■ SGA hosted its Fall Fundraiser on November 1, 2015, where VCOM Clubs set up tables during the White Coat Picnic for the Class of 2019 and were able to raise a combined total of over $8,000 for their respective clubs. Students and family alike were able to show their VCOM spirit and help our student organizations put on interesting and relevant programming for the 2015- 2016 year.
