ACOP American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians

T he student chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Pediatricians (ACOP) at VCOM–Virginia works to provide exposure to the field of pediatrics through both educational events and community service. The student organization places special emphasis on building relationships with various community partners in order to promote both pediatric health as well as osteopathic medicine. ■ ■ ACOP hosted a game of

■ ■ ACOP provided babysitting for children of several alumni during Homecoming 2015. The children enjoyed an afternoon filled with games, crafts, a movie and a pizza dinner. ■ ■ On May 8, 2015, ACOP ran a face painting booth at the graduation picnic. ■ ■ ACOP sponsored the Giving Tree, which collected Christmas gifts for orphans in El Salvador. The gifts were presented on VCOM’s El Salvador Mission trip in December 2015. ■ ■ ACOP members held a Mini Med School for fifth grade students from Blacksburg New School. They learned about several body systems with

demonstrations, hands-on activities, and a question and answer session. ■ ■ ACOP held a Mini Med School for the Rainbow Riders Daycare. Students learned about several body systems, including the heart, lungs and musculoskeletal system. ■ ■ ACOP hosted the annual event of Dress Up Docs. All proceeds were donated to the Empress-Janeen Hughes Memorial Scholarship. This year, ACOP raised $350. The event was filled with fun music, faculty/staff dancing, and lots of laughs. ■ ■ ACOP held a bake sale to provide Christmas gifts
