ACOOG American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology

T he American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOOG) student organization works with VCOM’s OB-GYN faculty to foster and develop awareness and interest in the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology among the medical student population. The organization strives to help members develop highly competitive residency applications, to increase awareness of women’s health issues, to educate students about sub-specialties in OB-GYN and the services provided by women’s health physicians, and to coordinate service opportunities.

■ ■ Cathy Callahan, MD, held an informative session for those interested in OB-GYN on what residency directors are looking for, how and when to apply, when to do audition rotations, which elective rotations she recommended and more. Her assistant, Danielle Hale, recommended what to wear to the interview, how to interact with the current residents, and interview tips. ■ ■ Several VCOM physicians were in a question and answer panel and first- and second-year students were able to ask what it was like to balance medicine, life and kids. They offered advice on when to have kids and how to juggle the demands of relationships, motherhood and work.

who matched with OB-GYN specialties back to campus for a question and answer panel on May 4, 2016. ■ ■ A visiting doctor from Tennessee and VCOM faculty taught ACOOG how to treat pregnant women with OMM. They showed special accommodations to make patients more comfortable while being treated. ■ ■ Jason Parker, DO, is an Army Doctor that specializes in Reproductive Endocrinology and is an infertility specialist. He had lunch with ACOOG and SAMOPS.
