ACOFP American College of Family Physicians - Family Medicine

T he primary focus of VCOM’s student chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians (ACOFP) is to deliver healthcare and education to our surrounding communities, while simultaneously providing students with the opportunity to learn and explore the field of osteopathic family medicine. The organization is committed to providing members with access to local family physicians, information about post-doctoral training programs, as well as additional tools and skills to help them succeed in a future career as an osteopathic family physician. ■ ■ On Monday, December 14, 2015, 46 ACOFP members

joined residents from LewisGale Memorial Family Medicine Residency, led by VIP Residency Director, Amy Doolan, DO, for a punch biopsy and suturing workshop. Students biopsied and sutured pigs' feet after dining on free pizza. welcomed a guest lecturer, Erin Koscinski, DO, from Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abington, Virginia on September 9, 2015. Dr. Koscinski presented about “OMM for the Pregnant Patient.” ■ ■ On October 9, 2015, ACOFP hosted VCOM’s first annual International Outreach ■ ■ In conjunction with SAAO and OBGYN club, ACOFP

Fundraiser Volleyball Tournament. Teams played in a single elimination tournament that raised $150 for the VCOM Division of International and Appalachian Outreach. ■ ■ In conjunction with SAAO, VCOM SAACOFP welcomed Joy Elliott, DO, and four Riverside Regional Family Medicine residents on October 29, 2015. Following Dr. Elliott’s OMM lecture, students at pizza before heading to Frank Theatres CineBowl and Grille. This provided students with the opportunity to mingle with residents and ask them questions before VCOM’s Hospital Day.
