T he American Osteopathic Academy of Sports Medicine (AOASM) is a student organization created for student doctors with an interest in Sports Medicine. The organization’s highest priority is to provide student doctors with opportunities to acquire a skill set that could benefit them in their future careers. AOASM strives to provide opportunities in the local community where members may gain useful experience by partnering with sports medicine physicians. The organization has a passion for service in the community,

■ ■ Club members volunteered at the Greenbrier Classic, a week long PGA Tour event, during the summer of 2015. Students worked with VCOM physicians and EMS at the event hospital tent and two other first aid tents located along the golf course. There they provided basic first aid and OMM for caddies, spectators and staff. ■ ■ AOASM, along with Surgery Club (SOSA), held the first “Orthopedic Talk” with Virginia Tech team's orthopedic physicians Anthony McPherron, DO, and Bart Eastwood, DO, on December 9, 2015. The dinner was followed by a presentation in

which both physicians gave talks on the ins and outs of orthopedic medicine, ending with a round table of a question and answer session. ■ ■ The Big Blue Wrestling Tournament took place at Christiansburg High School from January 15 - 16, 2016. Twenty members assisted athletic trainers, sports medicine fellows, and physicians got hands on experience with blood control, stitching, dislocations and more. ■ ■ AOASM hosted the annual Bernardo Bowling Tournament on February 18, 2016, to raise money for the Bernardo

particularly promoting the health benefits of physical activity.
