Honduras

Honduras is known for its vivid mountain ranges that are best viewed from the tops of its ancient Mayan ruins.

I n Honduras, VCOM partnered with the Baxter Institute to operate the James Moody Adams (JMA) Clinic, serving a population of families earning less than a dollar per capita per day in an impoverished area of Tegucigalpa. The site offers primary care, gynecology and prenatal services, children nutrition program, and dentistry, as well as pharmaceutical needs for the patients. In addition, the Honduran Ministry of Health, National Hospital, San Felipe Hospital and UNITEC Medical School are key VCOM partners in meeting our mission in the region. Outreach Trips 2015-2016 On October 18, 2015, a team of students, faculty and staff,

as well as several volunteers traveled to Tegucigalpa, Honduras, for a week-long medical outreach trip. The VCOM medical outreach team set up a temporary clinic each day to provide medical care in and around the capital During the months of December 2015 and January 2016, a total of 47 students from the Graduate Premedical Certificate Program also visited this location with faculty members on international outreach trips. From April 9 to 16, 2016, a group of 19 second-year students and one fourth-year medical student, as well as faculty, staff, and several volunteers, traveled to Santa city, caring for over 500 impoverished patients.

Rosa de Copán, Honduras, for a week-long medical outreach trip. During the trip, the group was hosted by Mission UpReach, a faith- based organization in western Honduras. The VCOM medical outreach team set up a temporary clinic each day to provide medical care in and around Santa Rosa de Copán, caring for approximately 350 impoverished patients. For follow-up care, patients were referred to local healthcare centers. In addition to the daily clinics, the group played ball with the girls in a local orphanage, visited with the residents of an elder care facility, toured a local hospital and enjoyed a day off touring the Mayan Ruins of Copán.
