T he Research Division of the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine hosted its fourth annual Research Retreat on November 10-12, 2017 at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. This event was the largest research retreat to date. More than 60 people attended, including researchers from all three VCOM campuses, partner hospitals and colleges such as Virginia Tech, Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine and Radford University. In addition to the scheduled speakers and program, an additional half day of activities was added to ensure faculty had maximum time to discuss their research ideas and plans. The event, open to all faculty, administrative leadership and clinical partners, focused on developing skills in research methods and design, and highlighted unique tools for seeking funding. Sessions explored a variety of funding opportunities, development of a research plan and a host of other relevant topics. Attendees had a chance to discuss their research ideas with biomedical and clinical colleagues. New this year was a National Institutes of Health (NIH) style mock review panel and focused faculty presentations highlighting successful projects and collaborations. Three VCOM faculty volunteered proposals to NIH and AOA that have either been submitted and are pending or have been submitted and rejected. A panel made up of researchers
