VCOM-Carolinas Student Named First Feldman Scholarship Recipient

C ongratulations to Jessica Jordan , VCOM- Carolinas Class of 2021 student leader, for being named the first recipient of the Edward M. Feldman, DO Memorial Scholarship Fund. Jessica is the 2020 VCOM-Carolinas Student Doctor of the Year and Co-Founder of PRIDE In Healthcare VCOM. or fourth-year medical student who is either a veteran, spouse or child of a veteran. Dr. Feldman was an intensely patriotic man who volunteered to serve in Vietnam. For his service, Dr. Feldman was awarded a Silver Star and two Bronze Stars and nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor. He is the first and only DO to be nominated for the highest award given for valor in action. “My dad was an airman. I grew up hearing his stories, and knew there were some stories he would never share,” said Jordan. “He joined the military to serve his country first, then to solidify his future,” she added. “After being honorably discharged, he used the military’s support to go to school and become a medical technologist, met my mom, and continued to use the values of the Air Force to serve his family. He taught me the value of integrity; saying what you mean and doing what you say. His altruism in service to his country and family inspired me to become a physician and to focus on serving underserved populations in particular,” said Jordan.
