Arnstein Minority Scholarship Awarded to VCOM-Auburn Student K evin Wortman , a second-year student at the VCOM-Auburn campus, was recently awarded the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) 2019 Sherry Arnstein Student Minority Scholarship. The Arnstein Scholarship recognizes underrepresented minority students attending one of the AACOM member colleges. The award is given to at least two osteopathic medical students each year. Wortman, who is from Lakeland, Florida, noted that both community service and treating patients with a more holistic approach were the tenets that drew him to osteopathic medicine. “I am extremely honored to be a recipient of the Arnstein scholarship,” said Wortman. “It is both uplifting and reinvigorating to know that AACOM supports me in my pursuit to serve the community that helped raise me,” Wortman added.

VCOM-Auburn Students Selected as Paul Ambrose Scholars

T wo VCOM-Auburn students were recently selected as Paul Ambrose Scholars. Ashley Rizzieri, MPH , and Denisia Thomas, MS, both from the VCOM-Auburn class of 2023, were honored with the award. “Although they are only in their first year, Denisia and Ashley have already demonstrated their commitment to leadership in the osteopathic community, and promoting activities that further VCOM’s mission,” said Jake T. Williamson, PhD, VCOM- Auburn Associate Dean for Student Services. “They will be assets to the Ambrose Scholars program as they are to our campus,” Williamson added.
